Dear Adam,

It has been a good long 6 months since your camp. I have finally began to see results. Thank you.

I can understand how busy your schedule is, so I will make this as brief as possible.

Before the camp, I was an average, under-performing secondary student in St. Joseph’s Institution. Before, I never really took my studies seriously, which was a miracle I came in second in my class in sec 1. Even though I topped my class, I was still very lousy as compared to the other students in the level. What’s more, I was happy with my results. What irony.

Anyway, now, in my latest exam, the Mid Years, I am very proud to say that I have done well. The results are as follows.

English Language 74 A2
Literature in English 78 A1 (highest in class)
History 78 A1
Mathematics 96 A1 (highest in class)
General Science 90 A1 (highest in class, highest in cohort)
Chinese Language 57 C5

Overall percentage: 78.83% (highest in class)

My teacher even said - “Yong Chang is a very bright boy who is mature and responsible. He is a gem to his classmates.”

The only big obstacle i have left is my chinese. I am actively looking for solutions to solve this obstacle. Before, I can honestly say that I have given up on Chinese. Now, even though I have not improved, I am not discouraged at all. Instead I am even more motivated to do well because everyone does not believe I can. =)

Another piece of good news is that I have applied for National Junior College Integrated Programme. I have passed the first stage in their selection, which is a General Ability Test (GAT). My NJC english and math test will be held on this coming Monday. I sincerely hope that I will do exceptionally well. However, I want your opinion on a matter. Is a normal secondary school education or an IP education better?

I hope you can reply soon. Thank you - for everything.

Yours sincerely,
Yong Chang

The Secret to Continued Success is to Make Yourself Obsolete!

(Specially extracted from my upcoming book: Secrets of Millionaire Entrepreneurs)

Why is it that 80% of companies that are able to survive the first five years of business will usually fail in the next five? Shouldn’t they know what to do after being in business for the first five years?

The reason is because markets and economies are changing so fast that what works in business today will not work in three to five years. If you have the mindset of constantly doing things the same way and maintaining the status quo, you will soon be out of business.

Successful entrepreneurs are engaged in constant and never-ending improvement. They are always finding ways to innovate and improve their business operations, marketing, products and services. They know that if their business is not improving and growing, it is dying. Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft) once remarked that the key to succeed in business is to innovate and make yourself obsolete. If you don’t make yourself obsolete, your competitors will make you obsolete.

This is why the moment a software like Windows is released, Microsoft is already working on the next version and upgrades like Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Vista and so on. Bill Gates knows that the moment they stop innovation, another company will create an even better software and take over their customers.

This is exactly what has happened to companies that did not change fast enough. Back in the 1990s, the top selling mobile phone was Motorola. Motorola produced the best-designed and technologically advanced phones. Everyone, including me bought a Motorola phone. So, where is Motorola today? Last I heard, their mobile phone business has been losing so much money that Motorola is thinking of shutting down the whole mobile phone business altogether. What happened? Well, Nokia and Sony Ericsson happened to innovate even better designed and more user friendly handsets that captured all of their market shares and profits.

Do you know which is the first search engine on the Internet? Is it Google? Yahoo? MSN? The answer is none of them. The world’s first search engine is Alta Vista. Many of you may never have heard of this brand simply because it has it is an obscure site that very people go to. Needless to say, the company that was once a market pioneer and leader is now a business failure. Again, what happened was that the founders had the mindset that their search engine was good enough and there was no need to change what was working.

This left the door wide open for Yahoo! to come in and take away that leadership position. Then what happened next? Well, Yahoo! was too slow to extend their service range and innovate their advertising services such that Google (one of the newest Internet search engines) came along and took away 70% of the market share, leaving the remaining 30% to be fought over by the other search sites. In today’s ever-changing marketplace, a company that is the market leader today could be bankrupt five years later, if they stop innovated and finding new ways of doing things.

Instead of seeing this fact as a threat, see it as a fantastic opportunity. This means that your new company could take over the leadership position of the largest competitor today and even put them out of business! The key is to find a way to serve their customers even better then they can!

So, let me emphasize again that unless you keep innovating and changing the way you do business, you will be out of business soon enough. I can tell you that if I did not grow my business to enter new regional markets like Indonesia, China, Thailand, India and Malaysia, I will be bankrupt today! My company’s monthly overheads are about $500,000 and Singapore only accounts for 50% of my sales and profits. If I did not constantly focus on creating new programs (i.e. the Wealth Academy and Internet Marketing Academy series), writing new books (two a year) and changing my marketing and distribution strategy every day (i.e. entering the Singapore schools market), I wouldn’t still be the market leader in personal development training in Asia. Another competitor would have caught up and blasted me away to oblivion.

Today, it is impossible to maintain your position in the market by doing the same thing. The reason is because customer’s expectations change constantly, competitors improve constantly, employees work habits change constantly and so forth. So if you keep doing business the same way, you are actually going down, as everything around you is improving.

‘Nurturing the Winner & Genius in Your Child’ Is the New National Bestseller

My latest book, “Nurturing the Winner & Genius in Your Child” hit #5 on the National Straits Times Life Best-Sellers List on its debut. I believe this book will go on to help help thousands of parents to bring out the very best in their children.

Nurturing the Winner and Genius in Your Child

Nurturing the Winner and Genius in Your Child

For the last 12 years, I have been training thousands of students (aged 9 above) through my Superkids and ‘I Am Gifted So Are You!’ Programs. What has made my programs highly sought after has been our ability to help teens to break through limiting mindsets and develop the confidence, motivation and learning skills to become successful in school and in life.

So, why did I write this book on parenting? Well, many parents have often been amazed at how I am able to get their kids to listen to me and be inspired when they have not been able to get through to them for years! “What is your secret, Adam?” ” How do you get my children to even come back and volunteer as your coach for 5 days when I cannot even get them to clean my room?’ In this book, I reveal all the answers.

The big secret is that if we want to bring out the best in our kids, we must first understand their model of the world. The way kids see the world are completely different from their parents. We must learn to talk in their language! This book will teach parents how to talk so their kids will want to listen.

So, how did I learn all these strategies. Well, after training over 300,000 students and talking/counseling with more than 100,000 parents over the years, I have discovered some obvious patterns in the way different parents talk to, encourage, discipline and deal with their kids. I have discovered that children who have high self esteem and motivation do not come about by chance. Their parents have certain paradigms and patterns of thinking that make it so. In this book, I will reveal the paradigms and strategies of highly effective parents.

So, look out for it in all major bookstores today!

Empowering Teens to Succeed in School & In Life This Coming Holidays

Dear Friends

The June school holidays will be coming up and I will be running my Superkids (for ages 10-12) and ‘I Am Gifted, So Are You!’ (for teens)! These programs are designed to empower children and teens to achieve success in their school and beyond.

I focus on three areas of mastery; Learning Mastery, Personal Mastery and Communication/Leadership Mastery. In ‘Learning Mastery’ students will learn the more powerful and effective learning skills that would allow them to achieve quantum improvements in their school grades. They will learn skills like speed reading, super-memory techniques and whole brain note making…stuff that I used to jump from a below average student to among the top one percent in NUS (ok lah…must brag a bit)

Although I believe that scoring As in school is important, but it is NO GUARANTEE to success in life. This is because when you study hard to get a degree/diploma/ Masters/ Phd-> this piece of paper is nothing but a passport to get you your first job. But how fast you get promoted, how successful you become at what you do, how much money you will learn, how fast you can grow a business has GOT NOTHING TO DO with that piece of paper!

This is why I focus alot on teaching kids and teens the ‘Life Skills’ and ‘Personal Mastery’ skills to become super successful in their lives. I teach them how to have the winners mindset, how to manage their emotions, how to motivate themselves, how to have resiliance and overcome their fears.

Finally, I believe that no matter how smart or confident you are, you will never be able to succeed in life unless you know how to communicate well and get along with others. A main focus of my training is to teach teens how to have strong interpersonal mastery skills.

So if you have any children, nephews, siblings or friends who YOU KNOW will benefit from this life transformational program, bring them down for my free introductory seminar this weekend!

Congratulations! Superkid Dayna Becomes An Author At Age 11!

Wow! I was blown away when I was handed a book written by one of my students (from my superkids Program) Dayna Tan. At the age of 10, she was inspired to write a book called ‘I read 320 Books at Age 9, So Can You!’

She took ACTION and started writing for 10 whole months. This, in addition to juggling a hectic Primary 5 study schedule as well as a heavy CCA schedule, mind you! A few weeks ago, she approached me to write the foreword to the book and I was more than honored to do so.

Dayna and Adam Khoo

I think there is a lot we can all learn from this young lady. Everything is possible! Just follow your heart and your dreams and don’t ever let anyone or anything tell you what can or cannot be done!

So, for those of you who saying that you are too young to write a book, THINK AGAIN!!!! Stop with the excuses and limiting beliefs and just MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Dayna’s book will be hitting the bookstores really soon so look out for your chance to purchase this unique achievement! You can check out her website at www.daynatan.com

Just A Simple Thank You…

It’s a start of a new school year for many students but also how did some of them do for the previous years exams? Especially for the O and N levels?

Well I sometimes receive emails from students and reading the messages make me remember why I’m doing what I’m doing now. And it is certainly all worth the effort.

Here’s one from someone who I want to congratulate:

Study Skills

Hanfei, YOU are the idol and role model for stuents to follow, not me. Because it’s what you and so many students have achieved, that many more will be inspired to follow in your footsteps.

So for those starting a new school year and for parents who have schooling children, make the best of 2007 and aim for the stars!

Giving Hope to Our Young

For those of you who think that my ‘Superkids’ and ‘I Am Gifted, So Are You!’ training program is only about helping teens to score ‘A’s and get a good academic education, then you may want to read this email that I received from one of my students.

Just wanted to share another email I received:

From: “Wan Ting Leong”
Date: Mon, 27 Nov 2006 16:28:02 +0800
Subject: ^.^ thank you

Hello Mr Khoo,

Thanks to you and your Superkids camp, i was able to score 265 in my PSLE
this year! I really think i would not have even gotten that high as i was
aiming for 240 and my science was really bad. Instead i got A* in that
subject, something i have been trying to do since p4 and have rarely
achieved.

The mind maps helped as i didn’t have to study any more
unnecessary information and i found it easier to concentrate with the
colours and pictures. I also managed to finish and check my Mathematics in
time as i could read the numbers faster, same with the English
comprehension.

Thank you and i hope your camp gets more participants-it really works!

Yours Truly,

Wan Ting a.k.a. the crazy girl from St Nicks

Congrats Wan Ting! You deserve all the success you have achieved and I’m sure there’ll be many more to come!

You Are Gifted Too!

I just wanted to share a short email I received.

When you set a goal and put your heart to it, you can make your goal reality. So go out there and make your dreams come true!
